9 Emotionally-Impactful Fragrances

Hello!

My name is Katrina, and I create perfume content on TikTok here and there. Surprisingly enough, I only fell in love with the world of fragrance within the past couple years. The first perfume I can remember owning was “Someday” by Justin Bieber, followed by “Our Moment” by One Direction (of course).

Growing up, I seldom wore fragrances, mainly because I never sought out any to test out, or make any effort into finding one I truly enjoyed. The only scent I knew I loved was vanilla (and still do!). My world turned upside down when I first discovered the fragrance, “Tears” by Regime des Fleurs. I was dumbfounded to read that a scent could evoke feelings of melancholy and nostalgia.

I had to find out for myself if that was true! Since then, I have discovered and learned about so many different
kinds of scents and profiles, and the feelings and memories they could elicit. It has become such an
exciting hobby, where I gain understanding and knowledge, as well as connect with like minded
individuals and feel as part of a community.

I want to share with you a few of the scents that I found along my fragrance journey that have left a lasting impact and deepened my love for perfume. 

 

1. L’eau Papier by Diptyque:
   If you’re on Perfumetok, you have definitely heard people mention this one hundreds of
   times, but.. I promise this is popular for good reason! I still remember smelling this for the
   first time - my brain was altered. I truly understand what it meant to smell “clean.” To my
   nose, I don’t think this smells like realistic rice or steam. It just has such a unique and distinct
   smell that I can never get enough of. L’eau Papier is a great introduction to niche fragrance,
   and one that I think many people can connect with.
2. Debaser by DS & Durga:
   Before I tried Debaser, the smell of figs made me completely nauseous. I was always turned
   off to trying any scent with a fig note because of this. One day, I received a sample of Debaser
   randomly and decided to try it, why not? While the first spray on my skin did still make me
   slightly nauseous, for whatever reason, I could not stop sniffing my hand. It started off bright
   and green, then slowly morphed into this delectable, creamy concoction that was truly
   addicting. This scent single handedly converted me into a fig lover. Weeks went on, and still I
   kept thinking about Debaser, until I inevitably acquired my own bottle. Of all the bottles in
   my collection, Debaser has the largest dent. This was the scent of my spring and summer and
   it will always hold a special place in my heart.
3. Match Made in Heaven & Snow Moon Magic by Sorce:
   Okay, more very popular Perfumetok scents... Again, for good reason! Sorce was one of the
   first indie perfume houses I ever tried. I adored everything about them, from their bottle
   designs to the creativity of their scents. My mind was blown when I first tried these two
   scents. I was in absolute disbelief that someone could create a perfume that smelled exactly
   like matcha soft serve ice cream or a lavender chai cookie. From here on out, unique
   gourmands became a scent profile I loved discovering and smelling. Sorce is a wonderful
   indie house that deserves all its flowers, and they have such a wide variety of scents to try!
4. Freckled and Beautiful by What We Do Is Secret:
   Speaking of unique gourmands, this one encapsulates what a perfect Spring day is to me.
   While there are fragrances that can evoke a specific personal memory, this scent makes me
   nostalgic for a place that I have never even been to. I imagine a sunny Spring day, when the
   weather is just right, there is a quaint garden with white flowers blooming around, with a little
   table and chairs. On the table, there are pastries with cream and biscuits on dainty little dishes,
   with teacups of milk. It is a lactonic and creamy scent, with hints of orange blossom and a
   bready pastry quality. I highly recommend it to any fans of white floral/gourmands!
5. Paper (Expressive) by Commodity:
   Being able to indulge in a hobby as expensive as fragrance is a blessing. Acquiring samples or
   full bottles can add up, and stores that carry niche or indie houses to smell in person can be
   hard to come by as well. Sephora or Ulta are stores that are very accessible and contain a
   variety of price ranges. While I am not the fondest of a lot of the scents they carry, I believe
   there is something for everyone. Commodity is one of the first houses I smelled from
   Sephora, as I was intrigued by the simplicity of their line. Paper is the first skin scent I
   remember trying, and found it so cool that a fragrance could enhance someone’s natural smell.
   I also remember reading a review that said this resembled the scent of the pages in the bibles
   at church. 
6. Some honorable mentions I recommend from the indie fragrance house Sorce: A Witch’s Valentine, Vampire Wife and any of the In Dreams & Fairytales.
