NEARLY NUDE — DefineMe

I think we forget that fall fragrances do not have to be dark, spicy or aggressively gourmand. Nearly Nude is that soft side of fall for me, with oat milk, musk, benzoin and ambroxan creating this creamy, skin-like warmth that feels like being wrapped in something soft. It is understated and intimate, but still cozy enough to make complete sense once the air starts getting cooler.

FRUTO OSCURO — Eauso Vert

Fall fruit deserves to exist outside of just apple, and Fruto Oscuro is exactly why I wanted something darker and a little unexpected on this list. Capulín cherry, zapote and quince jam give it this rich, almost overripe fruitiness, while clove, black pepper, frankincense and woods pull everything into something deeper and moodier. It feels like the last fruit of summer ripening into fall, which makes it such an interesting choice for the season.

REMEMBER ME — Jovoy

Remember Me is one of those fragrances that I wait all year to wear again because it just belongs in cooler weather. The milky chai, cardamom, ginger and vanilla feel warm and creamy, but there is enough spice and woodiness underneath to keep it from becoming a straightforward gourmand. It smells like comfort to me, like holding something warm between your hands when it is finally cold outside, and it remains one of my favorite fall fragrances for a reason.

WELL LOVED — Influxious

Well Loved is such a different take on a fall skin scent, and that is exactly why I chose it. Apricot, cardamom and Nigerian ginger melt into buttercream, magnolia and tuberose before settling into shea butter, vanilla, cashmeran and amber, and the result is creamy, warm and almost like freshly moisturized skin. The apricot gives it just enough fruit while that shea butter and spice create this comforting, lived-in warmth that feels PERFECT once the weather starts cooling down. It smells like taking an everything shower, covering yourself in the richest body butter you own, putting on your favorite sweater and feeling completely taken care of.

22 ORRIS — LEDDA

I am not an orris girl, which is exactly why 22 Orris being on this list should tell you something. It is genuinely the only orris-centered fragrance I love because the buttery iris and orris are softened by sandalwood and marshmallow musk, giving it this smooth, expensive texture rather than something overly powdery or vintage. This is elevated fall to me: sophisticated, cozy, beautifully put together and the fragrance equivalent of finally pulling the good clothes out of your closet.

LA DANZA DELLE LIBELLULE — Nobile 1942

My favorite fall fragrance of all time and genuinely happiness in a bottle. Apple, cinnamon, vanilla and cacao sound like they could easily become predictable, but La Danza has this whimsical, almost storybook quality that makes it feel completely different. It smells like every joyful little thing I associate with fall, and the second I put it on, my brain has basically decided the season has officially started.

EPHEMERA — Sorce

There are pumpkin fragrances and then there is Ephemera. This is an INSANE pumpkin, but what makes it special is that it somehow smells like childhood rather than just smelling like pumpkin spice. Freshly carved pumpkin, brown sugar, acorns, notebook paper and black soil capture pumpkin carving, going back to school, playing outside and those first little signs that summer is actually over. It is one of those fragrances where the nostalgia is almost more important than the actual notes.

INDIGO — NEST

Every fall list needs a tea fragrance, and Indigo is one of those fragrances that proves you do not need vanilla, cinnamon or something super heavy to smell like the season. Tea and cardamom meet fig, bergamot and cashmere wood, so it has this beautiful balance of fruitiness, spice and warmth without losing its freshness. It is especially perfect for early fall because it can handle a warm afternoon and still feel completely appropriate once the temperature drops at night.

VAMPIRE WIFE — Sorce

Vampire Wife might be one of my favorite summer-to-fall transition fragrances because it somehow belongs to both seasons at once. Blood orange keeps it juicy and bright while spiced wedding cake, star anise, oakmoss, tonka and powdered skin start pulling it somewhere darker, warmer and slightly gothic. It is what I want to wear when I am mentally in October but the weather is still very much refusing to participate.

MOON MAGIC — Sorce

If Ephemera is childhood fall, Moon Magic is the cozy, slightly witchy version of fall I want as an adult. Lavender sugar, chai spices and vanilla steamed milk are wrapped in tonka, cashmeran and ambroxan, giving you something creamy and comforting with this beautiful aromatic quality running through it. It smells like staying up late with something warm to drink, a candle burning somewhere and cold air coming through an open window. Cozy without being boring is harder to accomplish than people think, and Moon Magic absolutely gets it.

UNICORN HORN — Arcana Wildcraft

I need you to understand that Unicorn Horn is one of the BEST vanillas you will ever get your nose on. French and Bourbon vanilla are wrapped in golden iris, powdery orris, creamy musk and this almost silky texture, so it feels ethereal rather than just sweet. There are approximately eight million vanillas on the market right now, but this is the kind that reminds me why I fell in love with vanilla fragrances in the first place. If you want one beautiful, comforting vanilla to carry you through fall, this would be very high on my list.

SILKY WOODS — Goldfield & Banks

Silky Woods is for the part of fall when the temperature actually drops and I want my fragrance to have some weight to it. Cinnamon, tobacco, vanilla, sandalwood and Australian agarwood create this warm, woody sweetness that feels rich and enveloping without losing its polish. It is deeper and sexier than some of the cozier fragrances on this list and gives me that very specific late-fall feeling when the sweaters and coats are officially out. This is grown, expensive-smelling fall.
