7 Comforting Scents to Feel Grounded

I got into fragrance as an escape during a really hard time in my life and have stuck with it ever since.

The concept of recreating such oddly specific scents you encounter in life is one of the coolest things ever in my opinion. (examples; Steamed Rainbow by DS & Durga smelling like hose water or Naked Dance by Oddity smelling like a pottery studio). That is where my love originally started. 

Now, I connect much more with the emotional experience of fragrance, especially through memories, imagery, and nostalgia. Outside of fragrance I love reading and writing, horror, bugs, collecting trinkets, and spending time with my loved ones. (both human and other species).

Since I relate scent so deeply to feelings, I tend to reach for fragrances that bring me a sense of safety and comfort. These are some of the scents I reach for when I need to ground myself. 

*Side note: I also get headaches and nausea very easily and these fragrances trigger either for me. If that’s something you struggle with as well, I think you could be safe with these picks as well. 

Pura Lux by Chapel Factory 
This was a love at first sniff. Before this, I wasn’t a huge fan of musks/skins scents but now, they are some of the fragrances that I reach for most and that is because of this. Pura Lux to me feels like being held in the most comforting peaceful hug. It’s woody, musky, clean, and floral but not overly so. I wish everyone smelled like this.

Reine des Cygnes by Odette 
I grew up dancing and we used to practice in the upstairs studio of this old building with hardwood varnished floors and long floor to ceiling satin curtains . I remember loving the smell in there of wood, furniture, fabric and dust. I also have such good memories associated with this smell because I loved dance and the time I spent at this studio. This fragrance reminds me so much of those smells and that time in my life. It is so beautiful and special to me. 

Taipei by One Day 
My white whale scent is my puppy’s paws and while I haven’t found my exact replica, I’ve found one that comes pretty darn close, and that’s Taipei. Though, I don’t want my scent association to put anyone off if they’re not into dog feet! It is also one of the most unique and beautiful scents ever. It’s starchy, milky, nutty, and woody. It is also one of the most realistic rice scents I’ve tried. I love it. 

Cloud Reverie by Future Society 
The easiest reach for everyday in my collection. I love this one! It’s sparkly, clean, powdery, and lightly sweet. Something about it is so ethereal and it’s not just the namesake. It reminds me of a cloud of bubbles in the bath or literally being on the inside of a cloud. I also find it 
so fascinating that they gathered actual cloud microbes to analyze and create this scent. 

Lil Softie by Lore 
I just a kid up past my bed time with a big bowl of Fruity Pebbles binge watching Spongebob. It’s not just the cereal milk but also the static from the TV and the cozy warmth of a blanket. This scent is so comforting and brings me so much joy, when I wear it I can’t stop smelling myself. 

Fire at Will by Jovoy
Everyone needs a token vanilla scent and this is mine! It is the most deliciously soft vanilla. I fell in love with it the moment I first smelled it. It’s creamy, sweet, and subtle. My favorite time of the year to wear this fragrance is winter, it gets me into the holiday spirit and brings me so much joy. 

Beyond the Veil by Sorce 
There obviously had to be a Sorce fragrance on this list… come on. Beyond the Veil is my favorite release thus far. It is so light, airy, and ethereal. I feel like a fairy when I wear this one. A lot of Sorce scents tend to lean very heavy and overwhelming for me but this one is just 
perfect. It’s all of my favorite things put into one- powdery, musky, and sweet. Truly such a beautiful fragrance.
